2016 UFO Challenge - October

I've pulled the top and set it on the HQ16....but there's simply no way on this Earth that I'll quilt it before the end of the month...No.Way.At.All.

If I already had a back, it might have been possible....

July (& April) UFO Challenge Finish!!!

Miracle of Miracles I finished the July UFO Challenge!  This was a top I made way back when I first started quilting and I have no idea what I was thinking when I picked the fabric.  I'm guessing it was a fat quarter bundle of a single fabric in all it's color ways....and like a doofus I put them all in the same quilt top.  Ick.  The challenge for this top was to put on borders and call it a top.  Well, I just didn't like it At.All.  So......I cut it in half, which minimized the matchy matchy and then bordered both halves and VOILA!  I've got two nice donation quilts!  The pattern is from Kwik Krazy.

Earlier this year the number 11 was chosen for April's UFO challenge...it was to quilt the finished Phat Kats quilt top.  And in keeping with the Cosmic Plan that I only seem to be able to complete something every other month, my HQ16 got sick and I couldn't finish the quilting.  She's been to her spa treatment (thank you Spring Water Designs!) and has been working great so I finished up and now (3 months too late to count...) it is a completed quilt!  Phat Kats is from an Erin Underwood pattern:

Faithful Circle Quilters - Quilt Show

I registered 4 quilts for my guild's quilt show in April - pretty good for me!

Honestly, I had to go looking for quilts to enter - I'm not very good at finishing things! Here they are:

Barnsley - Bonnie Hunter's Jamestown Landing pattern. I took a class with her at Quilt Odyssey in Hershey PA in 2013 and finished it in 2015 so I could use it on my guest bed in the new house:

Barnsley Autumn - When we were de-cluttering our house to list so we could move here, I had to completely dismantle my studio and make it look like a "normal" bedroom again. Essentially I put every.single.thing. into storage but I did keep my Jem Platinum so I could at least do a little bit of sewing if I got desperate. Well...my DH actually gave me kit for Christmas that year so that I could do a little quilting...and this is it:

Back in 2012 I took a class with Gyleen Fitzgerald using her pineapple block ruler. Easy Peasy. And I used up a bazillion scraps doing it - only I think scraps get busy in those bins because the pile did not decrease at.all. I quilted it last week just so I could enter it into the show - AND it is on my UFO list for 2016, so now when that number comes up at Spring Water Designs - I'm already DONE!

And finally just a little wall hanging I made at a guild retreat back in 2012. It was a Connecting Threads kit.

2016 UFO Challenge

I'm participating in the Spring Water Designs (http://springwaterdesigns.blogspot.com/) 2016 UFO Challenge. I picked 12 UFOs to complete this year and each month she picks a random number and the object is to finally finish it. January's number is 5...my list is below:

1. Everyday Best Quilt: put on borders to finish top
2. Christmas Baskets: put on borders to finish top
3. Thanksgiving: put on borders to finish top
4. Crazy Quilt: put on borders to finish top
5. Winter Birds: assemble blocks and add borders to finish top
6. Kwik Krazy: quilt
7. Christmas Trees (Eleanor Burns): quilt
8. House & Star: quilt
9. Pineapple: quilt
10. Teal/Orange (Holly Bunch): quilt
11. Cats: quilt
12. Scrappy/Purple/Dots: quilt


And as luck would have it - #5 Winter Birds is the easiest finish on the list! Blocks are all made, border fabric already cut and ready to sew. The whole thing is just assembly. #s 1-4 sound easy - just add the borders - BUT I haven't selected fabric yet, nor the size, or anything. I like the simplicity of just sewing on without having to think about it.
